Functional nutrition focuses on the interplay between the food we eat and the way we feel. We focus on the patient instead of the disease. This is a personalized method of optimizing your health based on your individual genetics, lab values, lifestyle and more. There are no generic meal plans or handouts because each individual person is different!
Our goal is to train you to be your own wellness guide. To get there we need to educate you about your body, meal planning, cooking, self-care skills and establish a reflection practice so you know what's working for you and what's not. This takes time, practice, patience and diligence.
By comprehensively assessing personal health and nutrition history, we can create a roadmap to help resolve the root cause of your symptoms. Our goal for every client is to find the balance in diet and self-care that allows the body to heal itself, while keeping the process fun, approachable, fresh and delicious, all with food at the center.
WHAT MAKES FUNCTIONAL NUTRITION DIFFERENT?
We get to the root cause of diagnosis and symptoms by treating the body as a whole, discovering the imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, and metabolic dysfunction that regulate your system and are all too often overlooked in a standard model of health care. This allows us to take a targeted approach to treatment.
We work on the theory that the symptoms and diagnosis are like branches on a tree and we as practitioners dig down into the roots of the tree, investigating and nurturing the soil and environment around the roots.
As an example, in the case of someone with inflammatory bowel disease the underlying root cause didn't necessarily stem from the digestive system. Perhaps another system is out of balance and the digestive system is the one that fell victim to the inflammatory response to trauma, illness, stress, etc. With functional nutrition, you are not your disease or diagnosis.
We don't do weight loss. The theory is all systems need to be functioning optimally in order for the body to lose weight without depleting it of essential nutrients. Once systems are restored, the weight will be easier to shed as metabolism, hormones, and microbiome become restored.

We also help establish and review detailed nutrition journals of your food habits, mood and poop cycles, energy, and more.
With an on-site nutritionist to collaborate with, we offer our patients a well-rounded experience. We do not disregard the need for conventional medicine at times. Calorie counting, dieting, or weight loss are not the priority. We always try to assess by observation before turning to more invasive tests. We truly believe in treating you as a person and not as a disease or symptom. We will work with you to create lasting habits fully tailored to you with expert guidance, support, and accountability.
We have found that ultimately listening to a patient is at the core of delivering great healthcare. While we nerd out BIG time on all the sciences of the human body and medicine, the real magic happens when you connect with patients to solve their problems and support their health journey. Every patient comes with a unique story, passions, symptoms, past. We ask a lot of questions, we are nosey, we want to understand as much as we can to help a patient feel heard, transform, and be well.
